Homicide Cases

The U.S. murder rate rose 30% between 2019 and 2020 – the largest single-year increase in more than a century, according the data published in October of 2021 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The findings align with a separate tabulation of the nation’s murder rate published in September by the FBI. The year-over-year increase in the US murder rate in 2020 was the largest since at least 1905—and possibly ever.

Law enforcement agencies are more overwhelmed than ever dealing with the rising rate of homicide cases. This leads families with financial means to contract private investigators to assist with cases; however, the cost to retain outside investigative services is many times too costly for lower income families.

It is our goal at NILJ to provide financial assistance to fund investigative services for families searching for truth and justice in homicide cases.
